What is Homeopathy?

"The highest ideal is the
rapid, gentle & permanent
restoration of health."
from "The Organon Of The Medical Art"
by Samuel Hahnemann

Homeopathy was developed in its present form, in the late 1700's by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, a German chemist.

The principles of Homeopathy have been known for many hundreds of years, as far back as Hippocrates.

The actual word 'Homeopathy' is taken from the Greek words for 'similar' and 'suffering'.

It is this practice of treating 'Like With Like' that aims at restoring a healthy balance.

This holistic medicine treats the whole person not the disease.

Everyone is unique.  All signs and symptoms of illness, whether on a mental,
emotional or physical level, are interrelated.

These symptoms draw attention to the fact that help is needed whilst also indicating the remedy required to gently regain an optimum state of health.

Whilst each diagnosed condition will share many common symptoms each person will express their own particular state in a slightly different way.

Homeopathy recognises this and treatment is tailored to each individual. This is why two people who seem to have the same illness may be treated with different remedies.

What can Homeopathy Treat?

As the person is the focus, not the illness, then
any ailment can be treated with Homeopathy.**

What is a Remedy?

A remedy is a minute dose of a vegetable, animal or mineral source.

They are non-addictive and because of the tiny amounts used they do not have toxic side-effects.

This makes it highly suitable for babies & young children, pregnant women and people who are especially sensitive to conventional medicines.

All remedies are prepared by a licensed Homeopathic pharmacy and are
in the form of a tablet, a powder or in liquid.

The remedies taste pleasant and are best dissolved in a clean mouth.
In practise this means not eating, drinking, or brushing teeth at least
10 minutes either side of taking them.

Remedies are particularly sensitive to strong smells and sunlight so
should be stored away from them.

After Taking a Remedy

Remedies appear to act as a stimulant to your own natural healing process.

Often this passes unnoticed, but sometimes some sort of clearing occurs, possibly emotional, through tears or dreams.

This may also be felt in a physical manner in the form of cold symptoms, a discharge, slight rash, headache or other minor ailment.

Many people experience an increased sense of well-being soon after taking a remedy.

Sometimes current symptoms may temporarily get worse.  These are seen as good signs that the remedy is working and will generally resolve themselves in a few days.

They are part of the natural healing process and are best not treated, with any sort of medicine, even homeopathic ones.

These symptoms normally precede improvement.

How soon will Treatment
be Effective?

This is as individual to each case as the treatment applied.

Some situations may be resolved fairly quickly, such as those of a relatively short-term nature.

Long-term problems or illnesses due to their chronic nature may take more time to show improvement.

Whilst Homeopathy often yields very positive results it is not a quick fix.

It is more practical to think of Homeopathic treatment as a process
which can lead to a gradual improvement in your quality of life.

Homeopathy is Complementary

Homeopathy is a dynamic form of medicine which
advocates health and vitality on every level.

The aim is to promote healing which is rapid, gentle & permanent.

It can be used alongside conventional medical treatment and other therapies.

This can enable people to lead a fuller life and they are often able to reduce their level of drug dependency
with the help of their doctor.
